Simian Mobile Disco:Clocks EP

Jesus, it's been a while since the last post. It's amazing how three guys can be so lazy buy anyways, I'm bringing back the blog with...everyones favorite electronic duo. Simian Mobile Disco released the Clocks EP a couple months back but i can't stop listening to it and want to share it with everyone. You wont find a "Hustler" or "Hotdog" on it...which is nice in my opinion. The 4 tracks are instrumental that take you on an odyssey of minimal/techy/disco sounds. The standout track for me is "State of Things" which needs to be enjoyed in headphones. Grab a ticket now for the Mezzanine show on April 26th before they head out to Coachella. You will not be disspointed.
Grab all the vinyl, digital tracks you possibly can at Turntable Lab.
I also had to throw in another old remix that i slept on for waaaay too long. Night Facilities adds his trademark saw synths to my favorite track of ADSR.

TECH IS BACK:NEW MIDFIELD GENERAL TRACK

The techno giant is back with a new album after a very long hiatus. This doesn't mean Midfield General hasn't been busy. He has run the label, Skint, along with Fatboy Slim for over a decade has become BFF with the Ed Banger crew over the last few years. He remixed "Crazy Muthafuckas" for the very under-rated ed banger,Krazy Baldhead, as well as produced "D.A.N.CE" for Justice. The tables are turned for his next album with Justice and Soulwax producing all the tracks. He may have found some new trendy friends, but the General hasn't lost his techno roots.
One of my all time euro-tech favs along with Johannes Heil, i can't wait for more songs to flood the blogosphere! It doesn't hurt that one of the new leaders in tech, D.I.M, has put his dark and twisted touch to "Disco Sirens." Buy his and all the Skint roster here.

MOON GOONS EXCLUSIVE MIX!!!

These black-caped crusaders are not all just dark and evil. They are actually really nice guys and sent us an exclusive mix they recorded for SXSW! The duo is the Moon Goons and they hail from Minneapolis. Having been obviously influenced by the dark italo sounds form guys like Moroder,Robotnick, and Cowley, they bring a nice sinister sound to the electro scene. Listen to the track "Evil Organ$$" and you will know what i mean.

The Moon Goons look like they throw a pretty mean party as well. Their "Honey Moon" monthly has a new theme everytime. Past themes have been "moms" as well as "zombie aerobics" and volume 8 coming up is "white trash yourself."How awesome is that? Please go check out their myspace or official website and show them love. Don't forget to tell them Digital Bombs sent you. Stay evil.

TODD TERJE: EURODANS AND EDITS

Before we start, i would like to say how tired iam so excuse me if this post isn't up to par. It's been awhile but I'm back with a BANG! I got you some tracks from Euro-Disco legend Todd Terje. Apparently, "Eurodans" was made to be the most cheesiest, most ridiculous disco track he could make. What started as a joke, became a world-wide sensation when Clone Records head,Prins Thomas, heard the demo and released a limited amount on wax. Like his fellow Norwegians Lindstrom and Prins, the dude has the nu-disco sound down like no other. Filtering that old school-soul of days past with 21st century production, Todd is def. my artist of the month. I can't get enough!! Along with his original track featured, i threw some edits in for good measure. And when i say edits, i don't mean a couple measure thrown out here or there. I'm talking a full-scale opus going on in this shit.

Buy his work at the Clone store or head over to Juno and find plenty of remixes and edits to fill your crates.

Oh Snap!!

This late night/early morning post comes courtesy of Maryland's Oh Snap!! Self-dubbed as "your favorite mediocre white boy" Oh Snap!! has a fresh sense of humor that is a welcome break from the often hyper-sexual world of rave rap scene. The remix of his track "Bill Cosby Sweater" comes from Scotland's Hostage and shows a slight departure from the usual banger. This tracks should generate just as many grins as it does dancing bodies; it makes me wish that I could pull of a "Cosby" sweater and some reebok pumps.

Hailing from SOUTH Africa we have SPOEK, A rapper who's single goal is to put Africa on BLAST! No straight laced beats here, think just dirty dirty bass and a funky kick that will have you shaking your ass all night long. You may recongize him from Sweaty.X a dueo classified as

Little Boots

Well, I think that 2008 is shaping up to be a pretty solid year for music. As much as I loved the stuff that was coming out last year, I'll be the first to admit that a lot of it turned into a bit of a cluster-fuck of over saturation and hype. However, from what I'm seeing so far, people are regrouping and using the lessons learned and crafting some really solid tracks. Now I know that this song has been getting a lot of coverage in the blog world lately, but I think that some bandwagons are worth jumping on. Little boots is the current side project of London resident and former Dead Disco singer Victoria. She's just finished recording her debut album in LA with Greg from the Bird and the Bee. It would seem that she's made all the right friends because her single "Stuck On Repeat" was co-produced by Hot Chip's Joe Godard. This track really has it all: shimmering disco hi-hats, great vocals, and some massive synths. Luckily, I was able to find a high-quality version of the track, which sounds quite a bit better than some of the other downloads floating around. Make sure that you keep an eye out for Little Boots and the slew of remixes that should start popping up very soon. I have a feeling that it's going to be a great year. Stuck on repeat...yes you are.

Check her out on myspace to hear some other exclusive tracks!

And here's a Dead Disco track that I've always had a soft spot for; Victoria's vocals really stand out on this one.

Also, Victoria was also featured on the LA/Orange County radiostation Indie 103.1's Neon Noise electro show. Throughout the show they talk a lot about how Little Boots came in existence and there's even a DJ mix by Victoria herself. It's definitely worth checking out.

SIDECHAINS: DISCO HOUSE GOODNESS

Sidechains is an artist out of Barcelona that I have been diggin' for quite some time now. With all the norm "blog-house" floating around these days, he knows how to keep the true aspects of disco house alive. I'm loving the Grant Phabao sounds coming out of his synths. The cutting and french style house loops are top-notch. This is another artist that makes me wonder why they aren't signed. So please, go check out his myspace and tell him that DB sent you...and we would like to have his children. The track "Real" has to be my track of the month.

Miss Triangle

Miss Triangle is a production/DJ duo from Springfield, Missouri that has recently caught our eye here at Digital Bombs. The band dynamic may appear similar to other boy/girl groups such as Crystal Castles and Glass Candy, yet they retain a dark, brooding sound all their own. And if producing some pretty solid tracks wasn't enough, Miss Triangle can also hold their own behind the decks at Springfield's Black Box Revue--opening for such blog favorites as LA's Guns & Bombs, Crystal Castles, and Health! They've recently release a few tracks for download via their myspace, so I suggest that you get on top of that.

Did I mention that you should check out their myspace page?

Surkin Goes Chicago

In months past, i would have called French producer Surkin a boy-wonder. That simply isn't the fact anymore. He is a man amongst boys now and his new track "White Knight Two" proves it. He may have been too young for the Chicago house scene, but he channels all of those aspects like he started the shit. Surkin's "Next of Kin"ep is coming out very soon and i can only hope that this track will be included. It needs to be on vinyl soon! Until then, you can expect to hear this track at the next Distorted Disco party. Oh, those oldschool rave piano stabs and 303 make my heart melt. And for an added bonus, i snagged a quick little mix he put together which shows his love for the old house scene. But wait...I got one of the most famous Chicago tracks from the OG himself, Ralphi Rosario, to let you all know how it's done. Enjoy.

Go check out Surkin's label, Insititubes, for more goodies here.

Fidget From Down-Under: Wongo Tracks

Australian producer Wongo was kind enough to send me some exclusive high-quality tracks. He calls his sound "Wig Out House" but im fine with just ass-shakin' goodness. These tracks are a def. must-have for any fans of Switch, Sinden or any of the other jackin' producers out there. He's got every necessary tool in his arsenal for this genre. The bass wobbles...the samples are top notch and the drums are crisp as hell. Why he hasn't been signed yet is still a mystery to me. Show the man some love!!!and go peep out his myspace. We love the guy here at DB and can't wait for his debut "Congo EP" to come out already!

Russ Chimes: From Here to 1984...

In the western region of France, there is a cultural movement happening. A culture fascinated with Testarosa's, leather jackets and of course, KITT. It is a label called Valerie and one of their newest recruits is Russ Chimes. He's only been producing for a year now, but you would never know from his skills behind the boards. In such a short time, he's created a slew of remixes for the likes of Crytonites, Sam Sparro and Pony Pony Run Run. His sound is retro 80's disco with a dash of bloghouse. Think Kavinsky but well....way better. Expect a lot more post on the Valerie gang in the near future.

Mimo & Schmahl

Well, it's officially the weekend now. There's a lot of great parties going on this weekend so I figured that I'd get some feet tapping with a new track by Craft Music's new release by Mimo & Schmahl. It's not quite "banger" status, but when the track kicks into full gear it will definitely satisfy all those cravings for distorted synths and heavy kick drums. As of right now, this EP is available only at Beat Port, but it will receive a proper 12" release sometime in the near future. Have a great weekend!

Exclusive Jack Tennis Tracks!!!

Okay, so maybe they aren't "exclusive" tracks but its a nice headliner. German producer Jack Tennis was nice enough, however, to send me copies of his latest tracks that are better quality than most out in the blog world. He runs the always solid Berlin Battery blog with bff Shir Khan and DJ Supermarkt. Aside from his busy dj schedule, he is throwing out some bangin' originals and remixes. There are plenty to choose from, so i grabbed the first ones he threw my way. The Bangaltar/Tone Loc/Peaches jam needs to start creeping in everyones set...I'm proud to be one of the very first blogs outside his own to have these awesome tracks. Danke.
If you didn't click on his link above, heres his myspace.

Elektrochemie

I recently picked up my copy of the latest EP from the minimal supergroup Elektrochemie titled "Get Yourself," I suggest you do the same. This group, which consists of Sydney, Australia's Caitlin Devlin and the German Techno producer Thomas Schumaker, creates an unique brand of minimal techno. Caitlin's distinctive vocals lend their tracks a seductive quality that I haven't come across anywhere else within the minimal scene. They've release several singles and  EPs on Get Physical Records, and are well worth seeking out. You can purchase they're entire catalogue here.

These are a couple of my favorite tracks from their new EP.

SIRIUSMO

Siriusmo is a Berlin-based producer that has been releasing some great tracks lately. I've been enjoying his track titled "Wow" for awhile now, so I figured that I'd better post something before this guy is all over the place. The previously mentioned track even made it onto a recent mix put out by a little group you might have heard of known as Modeselektor. To add to his growing presence within the electronic music scene, his previous release "All The Girls" was put out on Germany's Exploited Records, and he'll soon see another release through that other notorious German label Boy Noize Records. Keep and eye out for this guy.

P.S.
Keep an eye out for the first ever Digital Bombs Podcast coming very soon!

Let's Go To Portugal

I'll go on record saying that Portugal's Moulinex is going to have a great year in '08. For everyone that's getting a bit tired of the choppy craziness of last years Blog-house craze, Moulinex's sound is a great combination of hyped-up disco and just the right amount of that distorted electro sound. I can't wait to see these guys make their way over to the states; someone would be smart to start booking these guys now. Do yourself a favor and check these guys out and get ready to dance your ass off!

They also make a pretty mean remix. Case in point:

And at the sake of over-indulging, they put out a great mix later last year. Like any great mix, it highlights what's great about the music being released at the time, yet it sounds great everytime you listen to it.

FOALS

Many of you are plenty tired of the same ol' Klaxon sound coming out of the UK....but wait,we have hope. Foals is a 5 piece dance-punk outfit that is ready to take over 2008. Their full length album titled "Antidotes" is due out in late March which was recorded and mixed entirely by themselves. While they have similar qualities associated with that "other" UK band, the musicianship is the center piece here rather than the usual nu-rave trends. They have their first single out on Transgressive Records which you can buy here.

The first single "Balloons" comes at you straight with intertwined, spacey riffs reminiscent of Minus the Bear but still having the dance punk feel. These guys are going places.

Foals- Balloons

Another big reason for selecting this post was the incredible remix from the mighty Surkin. Here he drops the acid house 303 feel and some samples which aren't coming to me at the moment. It shows a little different side of his production skills. This is gonna be a dance-floor pleaser all year long.

BOOM BIP

Boom Bip is my new man crush. What can't he do? Hailing from Cincinnati's underground hip hop scene, Bryan Hollon keeps re-inventing himself and the genres that try to keep up. With his newest ep titled "Sacchrilege", he has created a much more dancey feel than ever before. It seems as though Giorgio Moroder has become the influence this time around, channeling his unmistakable synth lines and pad stabs. In the right enviroment, these tracks could definitely be thrown into a set or two.

Buy the new ep here at Juno
Check out the man's myspace while you at it.

Late last year, he teamed up with Gruff Rhys to create the down and dirty sound of Neon Neon.

Step Out of that Grey Day...

Hello Hello! This is the third member of the digital bombs crew KidLove, bringing something a little different for you all to enjoy. Hopefully, I can attempt to keep up with the craziness that is ArtTheif and Rockwell!

Hailing from Dublin, Ireland we have DETBOI on, on the brink recording. Classified under BOOTY HOUSE, the man knows how to bring the dirty as well as letting the ladies shake whatever ass they have. Recently featured on SINDIN's Kiss FM radio
show, this young talent is expected to bring multiple hits in 2008. I wonder what the Dublin club scene is like, anyone have any ideas? If it’s anything like the music this boy brings, I say we take a trip and eat some Lucky Charms.

Stay Classy.

Hey There

Hey, how's it going? My name's Art Thief and I'm also a part of this Digital Bombs blog. It looks like I've got some catching up with Rockwell but I'll give it my best.

I figured that for my first post here I'd keep the momentum up of the previous posts with a little more of that disco sound. I recently came across Germany's Tensnake and have been impressed with pretty much everything that I've come across so far. He's got a great handle on that classic Italo Disco sound, but also has the ability to bring out some of his roots in minimal house. I chose these two tracks because I think they're great representations of his production abilities. These tracks are great for any late night mix.

Be sure to check this guy out on myspace or purchase his recently released "Restless" Ep on Mirau Musik .

Cheers,

...HERE COMES THE RAIN AGAIN...

Today really didn't seem to be my day. I'm feeling very under the weather and the situation outside isn't much brighter. So please excuse me if i'm not feeling in the mood for the bangers today. Everything changed when i popped in a track by Bot'Ox titled "Babylon by Car" and it seemed like divine intervention.

Bot'Ox is a french duo consisting of Cosmo Vitelli and Tekel. You may already know Mr. Vitelli from his official remixes of Daft Punk and Cassius, but he is so much more than that. He also runs the very underestimated label called "I'm A Cliche" which has put out everything from SMD to Yuksek. With this release though, the license was bought by heavyweight DFA and the duo have garnered high acclaim ever since. Electronica meets a Psychedelic Garage twist in the track that clocks in at over 7 minutes. But be patient, the first guitar chord strummed is well worth the wait. Perfect for that lonely cube or room you occupy while the weather tries to ruin my friday night. For more info, check out their myspace.

BRINGIN THE DIRTY DIRTY!!

You better watch out...this shit is going to explode all over your face! The man is Dirty 30 and he hails from Toronto.I wish i knew more about the guy but from his myspace, he looks like he loves bitches in strobelightz. Although he does have several party-anthem remixes and originals out, his debut ep titled "Apocalypto" out on the french label I'm A Cliche is almost a left-field sound with some breaks in it.If your skeptical about it,dont take my word for it. Simian Mobile Disco called it "the best record in ages."thats enough for me. The first track "Disco Apocalypto" has some SMD qualities about it but the remix on the album shifts it straight into party mode.Check out the Cybotron drums goin on.

If this doesn't satisfy your thirst, go check his myspace.
Or you can be a champ and buy the record right over here.

WELCOME TO DIGITAL BOMBS

So here it goes...the first post on the new blog. The now defunct Fluorescent Gray still lives in our hearts though.Art Thief, Kid Love and myself (Rockwell) will try to dish out the best in Indie, Disco, Electro Bangers,Ghetto-tech, and all those rare gems in between that will hopefully make you go buy some records.Enjoy.

For my first post, i'm going to go back in time. The Dutch producer/genuis known as Alden Tyrell will always be a love of mine. His track "Rendez Vous at Rimini" was the first song i ever used when i got my decks. This might be where my obsession with italo- disco started. Anyways, Mr. Tyrell stays pretty busy these days. Along with pumping out his solo tracks and collaborations with Prins Thomas, he also handles the mastering duties for all of Clone, Viewlexx, and DUB releases.

The two tracks i selected are perfect examples of his uncanny ability to get everything out of the bassline. Nu-school disco at its finest. Be sure to check out his label and purchase all the classics at Clone Records.
